He kicked several to the left side. To correct this he needed to take bigger steps to the left when lining up. On his misses, his plant foot was to far away from the ball, causing his kicking foot to contact the ball out on his toes rather then higher on his foot (2nd & 3rd Eyelet from the top of his shoe). Oliver needs to focus on taking exact measured steps straight back (for Oliver that is 4 steps) on on a path straight back on a line targeting the exact middle of the goal posts. Then, he must take exact wide steps straight to the left (2 side steps). These alignment steps should bring him to the exact kick starting spot the same distance from the ball every time. Next, he has to be consistent with his steps to kick the ball solid and straight every time, landing his plant foot (left foot) just to the left of the ball (no more than 10 inches from the ball). He needs to measure his path straight to the ball starting with his left foot, followed with his right - then his left foot to the plant spot as he actually kicks the ball. He should talk out loud following his steps, starting slowly finishing quickly.. Left -Right- Left & KICK-THE-BALL. The ultimate goal is for Oliver on PATs and FGs is for him to be moving as fast as possible by the time he gets to the ball, while maintaining control to plant his foot in the correct place as he is kicking the ball. The more exact the setup, the more certain the distance to the ball at start of kick, the more confidence that he will land his plant foot where needed, the more aggressively and quickly he can move to and kick the ball. Combined with an accurate placement of his kicking foot firmly at the lower third of the ball, the ball should go high and far every time. Eventually his three steps to the ball will be very quick, smooth and powerful. KICK OFFS: Oliver hit several kick offs very well, some even with studder steps before the actual kick, slowing his momentum to the ball. Oliver needs to focus on taking exact measured steps straight back (for Oliver that is 9 steps) followed by exact wide steps straight to the left (4 side steps). These alignment steps should bring him to the exact kick starting spot every time.  Next, he has to be consistent with his steps to kick the ball, landing his plant foot (left foot) just to the left of the ball (no more than 10 inches from the ball). He needs to measure his path to the ball by using two walking steps followed by 2 jog steps, followed by three fast steps to his plant spot when actually kicking the ball He should talk out loud following his steps starting slowly finishing quickly.. Walk - walk - jog - jog - KICK-THE-BALL. The ultimate goal is for Oliver on Kickoffs is for him to be moving as fast as possible by the time he gets to the ball, while maintaining control to plant his foot in the correct place as he is kicking the ball. He does not have to try to kick the ball harder, he only has to work on getting his steps down and his momentum to he ball up by the time he kicks the ball, follow through with his kicks foot to ball contact smoothly and naturally; His speed to the ball will determine how far the ball goes.

Using my smart phone cover/wallet as the tee, this first practice ever...both Brennan and Oliver did very well. We will use 1in and 2in tees in our next practice, which should result in higher and longer kicks. for both boys. A very good start. IMG_1347.MOV IMG_1349.MOV IMG_1348[1].MOV IMG_1350.MOV Will embed videos like these last 4 in future posts. Note to Video Tech: (mom) • Get closer to the Ball - try different angles: • immediately behind and on the the target line to the goal posts - for line up and PAT and Kickoff kicks • try a few from behind the kicker after line up (path to the ball - start to plant and kick) • A couple close up on the ball for foot to ball contact drills - No Step Kick Drill, One Step Kick Drill We practiced how to practice mostly today. Warmups (10 to 15 minutes) - Never skip warmups (same as the warm-up Brennon does for Soccer practice. 10 yard • high knees • butt kicks • Karaoke • leg wings (groin) • dynamic leg lunges Kick Practice (35 minutes) • Foot to ball contact exercise - grab goal post lean to the left...practice kicking foot placement to post approximating where you want to kick the ball - bottom third of the ball, with the mid-foot bone (2 to 3 eyelets from the top of the shoe). We will add No Step Kick Drill and One Step Kick Drill to focus on foot to ball contact in the future. • PAT kick steps (and practice kicking PATs) - Line up (4 steps back, 2 steps left), Start kick spot 3 steps away from Plant spot, less than 10 inches away from the ball - Left - Right - Left to Plant and Kick • Kick Off steps (and practice kicking KOs)  - Line up (4 steps back, 2 steps left), Start kick 7 steps away from Plant spot, less than 10 inches away from the ball - Walk step - Walk step - Jog step - Jog step - Left - Right - Left to Plant and Kick.
